Best Affordable Mechanical Engineering Degree Programs of 2019, And Other News - BlackEngineer.com

College seniors majoring in electrical engineering and a sophomore, double majoring in electrical and computer engineering, have been awarded scholarships by the Thurgood Marshall College Fund in partnership with Honda. The students from  Morgan State University‘s School of Engineering and School of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences will receive upwards of $4,500 for their tuition.

Darryl Brooks, a Florida A&M University electrical and computer engineering student, has been accepted into the Google Tech Exchange Program. After taking courses with the tech giant, Brooks will return to college to finish his senior year. The courses will count as electives toward his engineering degree.

Hampton University Sports Management professor, David C. Hughes, has created a mobile app called ‘Give Black,’ which is dedicated to making donations to HBCUs and other nonprofit organizations.

A new report has ranked the University of the District of Columbia as having the best affordable mechanical engineering degree program for 2019. UDC is one of 15 ABET-accredited programs at historically black colleges.

Using statistics from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), Affordable Schools (AS), a higher education resource, located four-year bachelor’s majors in mechanical engineering and the average undergraduate tuition from the 2018-19 academic year.

AS staff also took into account programs accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). One important factor was the student-faculty ratio. The University of the District of Columbia was the only six-pointer as the top best affordable college for high-value mechanical engineering degree programs billing $5,888, the survey said.

“Finding the best affordable mechanical engineering degree programs is smart for students to switch gears into an in-demand STEM career with little debt,” AS staff said in the survey.

“Joining the 303,440 mechanical engineers nationwide lets individuals get their hands dirty building gizmos for the 21st century. Getting an economical mechanical engineering degree can prepare innovators for making futuristic things like self-driving cars, drones, supersonic aircraft, and robots a reality.”
