The School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of the West of Scotland offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in engineering, physics, and computing, and has a number of active research programmes in these areas. 

We are presently inviting applications for the post of Mechanical Engineering / Materials Testing Technician, which will primarily provide technical support to research, commercial and taught programmes within the Engineering disciplines of the School. The post holder will be responsible for the provision of technical support ensuring the effective and efficient operation of a range of workshop and laboratory equipment. 

The post holder will hold a HND qualification in Mechanical Engineering Discipline, or have completed recognised engineering apprenticeship or hold appropriate technical qualification. The post holder will have specialist knowledge across a broad range of engineering equipment including the operation and maintenance of laboratory and engineering workshop equipment. Experience of Universal Testing Machines would be beneficial, but not essential, as training will be provided. Ideally the applicants will have experience in one of the following additional areas – Strain Gauging / Materials Testing / Preparation of Composite Materials / Welding.
